Drills & Games

Helping You Coach

There are many books, videos and web-sites all claiming to tell you haw to coach or offering drills and games and practice sessions. Many of these are very good and useful but there are some fundamental things you need to understand before you begin. I have reviewed a lot of information as I have educated myself both formally through OSA clinics and courses, informally by reading and watching videos and also by watching other coaches work. Here I offer some basic advice and some links to some good information as well as some for download.

Before each coaching session or practice:

  • Decide what you are going to focus on.
  • Only work on two or three points in each session.
  • Work on teaching the KEY FACTORS
  • Do not move on to more complex drills unless you have success.
  • Always make your sessions fun. Your attitude and enthusiasm translates to the players.
  • End with a game and make sure the players go home happy.
